Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) factors are increasingly critical in influencing external perceptions of company performance. The ESG expectations of investors, of governments and of society at large have increased greatly in recent years. But ESG is not just about reputation. ESG performance can drive value creation. It can build internal pride. And ESG performance is subject to ever stiffer regulatory scrutiny. No company – large or small – can afford to ignore ESG.

NBCC and FBCC are delighted to bring together three highly experienced practitioners to discuss latest trends in ESG and to share their views on the opportunities and pitfalls that companies face today:

  • Rocio Paniagua, from Transparency International UK (TI-UK), the UK’s leading transparency and anti-corruption NGO, will give discuss how corruption and human rights are deeply interlinked and will tell us about TI-UK’s two latest publications Open Businessand Make it Count, which describe how companies need to avoid the trap of making ESG a box-ticking exercise.
  • Mariana Abreu, from leading law firm Wallbrook, will talk about case studies on how companies and investors have been integrating ESG and human rights in their due diligence processes: pre-transaction due diligence; third-party risk management; human rights impact assessments. She will also talk about ideas on what to expect in the ESG and human rights space in the near future: increasingly prominence of the S and human rights, integration of ESG into the compliance function, ESG regulation and ESG litigation.
  • Nina Schefte is Head of Social Responsibility at Hydro, one of the world’s largest aluminium companies and a company known for its commitment to sustainability. Nina will share some of Hydro’s experiences dealing with ESG issues, including in challenging environments such as Brazil.
  • Dominic Martin from Equinor UK, is the event’s moderator.

There will be an opportunity to ask panellists questions and discuss how ESG is affecting your business.
