Ambassador Teemu Turunen

Mr. Teemu Turunen has been the Ambassador of Finland in the UK since September 2025.

Ambassador Turunen was previously Deputy Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service SUPO 2021-2025 as well as interim Director in 01-04/2024.

Prior to that position, he was Director of the Peace Mediation Centre at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (2019-2021) and Ambassador of Finland to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay (2016-2019).

From 2009 to 2016 he served in consular affairs, first as Deputy Director (2009-2012) and then Director of the Consular Affairs of MFA Finland (2012-2016), leading cross-government teams in dozens of crisis situations, including evacuations, terrorist attacks, kidnappings and natural disasters.

His previous postings include Finnish Embassies in Beijing, Madrid and Damascus. Ambassador Turunen joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland in 2000.

Ambassador Turunen was born in Turku, Finland in 1973. He is Master of Laws from the University of Turku, Finland, and Master of Sociology of Law from the Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spain.

Ambassador Turunen is married to Lotta Mäki-Turunen. They have three children.

He joined the FBCC as an honorary patron in 2026.
