Nokia brings NFC to Nokia Lumia 610 smartphone with operator Orange
17 Apr 2012 - 1:57pm
Nokia today announced an NFC version of the recently-launched Nokia Lumia 610, the most affordable smartphone in the Lumia range and the perfect introduction to Windows Phone for a younger audience. Orange will be the first operator to range the Lumia 610 NFC, which can pair with NFC accessories and read NFC tags. The Lumia 610 NFC also has the hardware and software enablers for the implementation of NFC payment and ticketing solutions, and has been certified for contactless payments both with MasterCard PayPass® technology, and with Visa's mobile application for payments at the point of sale, Visa payWave.
"Nokia continues to lead the field in NFC with this latest implementation on the Windows Phone platform, in which we have the full support of Orange," said Ilari Nurmi, head of product marketing for Nokia's Smart Devices business unit. "We're bringing NFC right across our portfolio, and together with our ever-growing range of NFC accessories we're making it easy for people to connect via a single tap. We're also enabling operators and other service providers to build NFC payment and ticketing solutions on top of our smartphones."
"Orange is committed to rolling out mobile NFC services in all its European territories and as part of this goal we're very excited to be the first operator to launch the Lumia 610 NFC," said Yves Maitre, Senior VP Mobile Multimedia & Devices at Orange. "The Nokia Lumia smartphones have been very well received by Orange customers. We are now going one step further and adding an NFC-enabled handset to this popular range of devices, enabling people to use contactless services via a single tap. Nokia is a natural fit for us regarding NFC and, like Orange, has shown a very early commitment to the standard."

Payments certified
MasterCard PayPass® technology provides consumers with a fast and convenient alternative to cash at the point of sale for their everyday purchases. Devices certified by MasterCard, such as the Lumia 610 NFC, go through a rigorous testing process by a MasterCard accredited laboratory to ensure they will work seamlessly with the PayPass network.
"We are excited to have certified the Lumia 610 NFC for use with our industry-leading PayPass technology, joining other Nokia smartphones helping consumers choose when, where and how they shop on devices they own and love," said Mung Ki Woo, group executive, Mobile at MasterCard.
The Lumia 610 NFC is expected to be available early in the third quarter of 2012.

Lights out in Nordea: Earth Hour 2012
30 Mar 2012 - 2:21pm

On 31 March 2012 Nordea switches off the light from 20.30 to 21.30 in all head offices and in over 1,400 branches.
This is the third time that Nordea participates in Earth Hour. Like last year Nordea will switch off the lights in our office buildings in all 21 countries where we operate.
In Nordea we strive to lower our energy consumption. We have already achieved reductions by:
- shutting down computers at night
- operating energy-efficient buildings. 14 head office buildings are LEED certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design)
- installing motion sensors to improve light control.
Switching off the light for one hour is a symbolic act; the goal is not to save energy. The purpose of Earth Hour
is to make us all think about how we can help reduce climate change. It is a voluntary global event organised by World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).
We encourage our employees and customers to turn off the lights during Earth Hour and we are spreading the message via our branches and on the web
Nokia expands its smartphone line with the launch of the 808 PureView
27 Feb 2012 - 1:55pm
Nokia sets a new industry standard with the first in a range of high end experiences based on exclusive Nokia PureView imaging technologies.

Nokia today ushered in a new era in high-end smartphone imaging with the Nokia 808 PureView. This is the first smartphone to feature Nokia PureView imaging technologies, bringing together high resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed algorithms, which will support new high-end imaging experiences for future Nokia products.
The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable. At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.
In addition to superior still imaging technology, the Nokia 808 PureView, also includes full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world's first use of Nokia Rich Recording. Rich Recording enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones. The Nokia 808 PureView also features exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, transforming stereo content into a personal surround sound experience over any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

KONE to supply eco-efficient elevators to a new office building on Canary Wharf
20 Feb 2012 - 4:30pm

KONE has been selected to supply 25 eco-efficient elevators with supportive technologies to 25 Churchill Place in London, UK. This new high-rise office building in Canary Wharf will stand at a height of 128 meters once completed in late 2014. The office building is being developed by the Canary Wharf Group and the main contractor is Canary Wharf Construction Limited (CWCL).
The order includes 22 KONE MiniSpace® elevators, of which 20 will be dedicated to transporting passengers and two for freight. MiniSpace® elevators are especially suited to high-rise buildings. The other three elevators are KONE MonoSpace® Special, of which two can travel at the high speeds required for firefighting. These elevators, equipped with the energy-efficient KONE EcoDisc® hoisting machine, are 50–70% more efficient than elevators that use conventional traction two-speed or hydraulic technology.
Working together with the elevators is the KONE Polaris® destination control system which will reduce waiting times for the office workers. There will also be KONE Infoscreen displays installed within each passenger car to inform and guide elevator passengers for smoother flow in the 26-floor building. The KONE E-link traffic monitoring system will ensure a high service level of the elevators.
“We are delighted that our longstanding relationship with Canary Wharf Contractors has resulted in another order to provide People Flow® for professionals in this London financial hub,” says Ari Lehtoranta, EVP and Area Director of KONE Central and North Europe.
25 Churchill Place has been designed by Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF), the architects behind KONE’s Parisian reference Tour First. Previous KONE CWCL projects include the Citigroup Centre at 25 and 33 Canada Square.
The order was booked in the first quarter of 2012.
